flood flow frequency model selection using l-moment method in arid and semi arid regions of iran
Authors
abstract
statistical frequency analysis is the most common procedure for the analysis of flood data at a gauged location thatin first step it is needed to select a model to represent the population. among them, the central moment has been themost common and widely used, and with the using of computers, the application of the maximum likelihood hasincreased. this research was carried out in order to recognition of suitable probability distributions with perviouscommon methods. in order to investigate of suitable probability distribution for flood flow, using l-moment methodthrough the existing hydrometric stations in the region, 17 hydrometric stations were selected for peak dischargesdata studies. according to results of this research for peak discharge, lp3 distribution and ordinary moment method,p3 distribution and l-moment method, ln2 and ln3 distributions and ordinary method have been suitabledistinguished for 53%, 35%, 6% and 6% of stations, respectively. we concluded that l-moment method is suitable todetermine peak series probability distributions in the iran central plateau and p3 is the best probability distribution formodeling peak series in this region.

full textStatistical model of daily flow in arid and semi arid regions
Abstract Stochastic model for synthetic data generation is not available for daily flows of intermittent streams. Such a model is required in the planning and operation of structures on an intermittent stream for purposes where short time flow fluctuations are important. In this study a model is developed for such a case. The model consists of four steps: determination of the days on which fl...
full textLong Lead Flood Simulation Using Downscaled GCM Data in Arid and Semi-arid Regions: A Case Study
Flood is one of the most calamitous natural disasters that causes extensive property and life damages across theworld. It however, could be a blessing due to its special natural water resources recharging value. By simulating themagnitude of probable floods considering the anthropogenic and natural effects and implementing contingency plans, their damages could be reduced. In this paper, the Gen...
full textInvestigating the interaction between rivers and sand dunes in arid and semi-arid regions of Iran
Extended abstract 1- Introduction Fluvial and aeolian processes are important factors in changing the surface of morphology in the Earth. When rivers and sand dunes meet, the transportation of sediment between them can lead to one of the systems or both of them change. With their connection between river sediment and wind systems there would be lots of reactions, but very little has been st...
full textThe Landscape as a Unit for Rangeland Inventory in Arid and Semi-arid Regions of Iran
Severe range degradation was critically extended in many region of Iran and caused many rangelands were restricted and interwoven with croplands in a complex system. Therefore, rangeland planning and inventory as an isolated activity has become almost impossible. Current landscape planning involves contributions of different social organizations often with different interests and with different...
